In collaboration with The Hebrew University Hadassah School of Dental Medicine, and supported by Alpha Omega Foundation US, as well as by Henry Schein Cares – AKIM Israel established a program to train young adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities in auxiliary jobs in the dental profession. During 2 years Supported Employment Program, at Hadassah School of Dental Medicine, in Jerusalem, selected persons with developmental and intellectual disabilities will study professional dental skills, in small groups. Following the completion of the program – which includes Preserve teeth treatments to every participant – the alumni will be placed in the dental job market, in Israel.
“Triumph of the Return” – On September 4, 2003, in a large ceremony, the Israeli Air Force flew three f-15 jets over the Auschwitz concentration camp in a show of the Jewish people’s continued strength and triumph over past adversities.
The military service enhances values of camaraderie, intuition, and leadership. AKIM’s “Equal in Uniform” program enables intellectually and developmentally disabled youth to volunteer, serve and contribute to Israel’s safety and security.
Israel became the first country to locate an accessibility sign in public sites which provide services for persons with developmental and intellectual disabilities
|AKIM Israel together with the Histadrut – ”General Organization of Workers in the Land of Israel” (The “Union”) have recently joined forces to promote the integration of the intellectually and developmentally disabled persons in the labor market in Israel.|
|As part of AKIM Israel’s desire to reach a full inclusion and participation, including residential facilities, in the community, AKIM maintains and operates 33 community-based apartments, throughout Israel, housing 4-6 residents each; all apartments are located within residential areas. These apartments are targeted to those people who can live independently, with minor supervision.|
|AKIM Israel serves as guardian for more than 1,500 persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities, regardless of their faith, ethnic background, age or sex|
|With the 2015 elections around the corner, AKIM Israel’s ”Election Booklet” offers information about candidates and policies, to empower individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities ”on their way to the ballot box.”|
