MARK GLICKMAN NAMED AS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The Board of Directors of Friends of AKIM USA is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark W. Glickman, CFRE as their National Executive Director. He will be based in Boca Raton, Florida.

Friends of AKIM has chosen a professional leader whose decades of dedication to Jewish life will make him an exciting contributor to the wonderful mission of AKIM Israel, said National President, Elayne Flamm.

Mark W. Glickman, CFRE has been a professional fundraiser for more than 30 years. He previously served as the Director of Planned Giving for the Simon Wiesenthal Center. From 2005-2007, he was a Senior Philanthropic Consultant for Wachovia Trust. Prior to that, he was the Executive Director of the Centre for the Arts at Mizner Park in Boca Raton. From 1990-2004, Mark was the Executive Director of the Jewish Community Foundation of South Palm Beach County. During his tenure, the Foundation increased its current and deferred assets from $18 million to $164 million.

He is immediate past president of the Greater Boca Raton Estate Planning Council, past president of the Planned Giving Council of Palm Beach County and past president of the Palm Beach County Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. He is also chairman of the board of the Master Chorale of South Florida. Mark was honored in 2001 as the Outstanding Professional Fundraiser of the Year for Palm Beach County. He received his Masters Degree from Kent State University Graduate School of Education; and his B.S.E. from the State University of New York College at Cortland.

International Volunteer of the Year Elayne Flamm

Elayne Flamm was the guest of honor at the gala dinner for Friends of AKIM USA, Palm Beach chapter. The event took place March 1 at The Breakers.

Flamm, national president of Friends of AKIM USA and president of the Palm Beach chapter, was named 2009 AKIM International Volunteer of the Year. The award recognizes her many years of work with the organization.

Herme deWyman Miro, international honorary chairwoman, gave a special tribute to Flamm, while Isaac Herzog, Israel minister of social services, congratulated the honoree via video. Flamm is the first person outside of Israel to receive the AKIM International Volunteer of the Year award. It was presented in Israel by President Shimon Peres at his official residence.

Daniel Bar-am, AKIM director of international relations, presented the award in person at The Breakers' dinner. Friends of AKIM USA gave Flamm a framed piece of art titled Eshet Chayil, which is the name of a Hebrew poem that means "woman of valor."

Held in the Circle Ballroom, the gala dinner featured crystal candelabras, accented by raspberry and white rose floral arrangements. Dick Robinson was master of ceremonies. Mark Bornfield Music provided the entertainment. Gala co-chairwomen were Marysia Green and Cecile Kriegstein, and co-chairman was Roman Kriegstein.

Guests included Jack Jones, Lois Pope, Suzi Goldsmith, Ari Rifkin, Margaret Donnelley, Sharon and Alton O'Neil, Hayden Hosford, Gail Worth, and Mary and Bob Simses. Proceeds from the evening benefit AKIM Israel, which provides habilitation services to more than 30,000 mentally challenged children and adults.
